Episode 45 – Le Samouraï (w. Adam Gobeski)

This episode, we get lost in the steel blue eyes of Alain Delon while watching Le Samouraï (1967) with executive producer Adam Gobeski. We talk inaccurate movie trailers, tightly directed action sequences, long takes, and an alternate ending. Despite the lack of dialogue, Amber shows the appropriate amount of respect for the film. But can we answer the most important question: how many keys is ALL the keys?

Clarifications:

Adam and Amber talk about the trailers for this film, including this one, which is very weird without the context of the rest of the film…

We refer to “mod” culture in passing, and in case you aren’t familiar with it here’s the Wikipedia page. For the record, I didn’t know this until I watched the movie Quadrophenia!

We argue a bit more about color calibration in this episode (don’t worry, we move on pretty quickly). When movies are on Kanopy, Charlie watches them on a desktop connected to his television, which leaves much to be desired as far as calibration options. Hence, these disagreements also came up in our Solaris episode.

Adam fears we may have alienated the subsection of our audience that vapes. We can all agree that none of us will ever be as cool as Alain Delon, regardless of nicotine intake method. Apologies all around!

Reddit was not forthcoming with the name of the film in which Alain Delon died smiling. The search continues…
